My 2D work is explored with a range of media: including oil, acrylic, etching, batik and mixed media. Most is figurative, sometimes combining close observation with comment on my preoccupations, such as mother and daughter issues, or reflections on ageing, or the foreshadowing of adult emotions seen during children’s imaginary play. Most recent work is inspired by natural forms, rocks, trees, water... I am fascinated by textile techniques, particularly batik and drawing with machine stitch. I bring a painterly sensibility to this work.
My sculptural work uses recycled materials and its underlying concern is with climate change. I am transforming everyday objects with mouldings that echo stalagmites, or corals, or calcified growths, that suggest millennia underwater or exposure to strange chemicals.
I have exhibited widely in the UK in solo, joint, group and open shows. During the last five years all my exhibitions have been with two women who share much of my artistic vision: Christine Clarke and Louise Day
Commissions include several portraits and five public art commissions.
